Empowering Victims of Human Trafficking and Slavery to Lead a Dignified Life

Most women served by the Destiny Foundation have no family and have had traumatic pasts which often include human trafficking, prostitution and slavery. Smarita brings these women together as a family and has opened her home for emergency housing. She enjoyed a protected and traditional upbringing, but as an adult became aware that not everyone was as fortunate. Working with an anti-trafficking unit in Bihar, India she saw young girls being sold by their own brothers and fathers. Her organization rescued a 15-year old girl from a brothel and Smarita welcomed her into her home. The Destiny Foundation empowers women through economic independence, awareness and capacity building so that they and their children are no longer exploited. The future goal of the program is to continue to expand to provide employment and training to more women.
