An attorney working with land rights for women, Lydia Bakaki is tremendously well connected through diverse communities of people seeking development and justice for women in Uganda. She is an organizer and trainer of politicians, and serves on the board of organizations such as the Women’s Intercultural Network and the African Centre for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture Victims Ms. Bakaki proposes to establish an economic global network of women. The one-year goal is to facilitate 100 women to acquire property worth $50,000 by mobilizing 200 women from at least five countries who are able to save $5,000 in one year. In this pilot phase the purpose is to facilitate 100 women to acquire property worth $ 50,000 in one country in one year.
Efforts to build political muscle for women will be greatly enhanced by economic empowerment at the macro level.
