Enrolling Women in Conflict Prevention and Peace Building
Kenya is a peaceful country, but unknown to many is the localized inter-tribal/clan conflict which has rocked many parts of the country. The conflicts – which are a struggle for insufficient resources especially among the pastoral communities - result in loss of livelihood, violence and destruction mainly affecting women and children. The overall goal of Josephine’s program is to eradicate hunger, malnutrition and poverty through effective management of major disasters and focusing on women as the key advocates for change. Within her call to work in social justice, Josephine has experienced great personal sacrifice. In 1996, while working in Somalia, she and a colleague were held hostage by an Islamic extremist group. After their release Josephine refused to abandon her responsibility to serve and empower the less fortunate in Somalia. Josephine, a holder of a Master’s Degree in International Development with 19 years experience gained through working with International NGOs and the UN, continues that legacy with her work in Kenya.
