ANNETTE MUKABERA

Honorable Annette Mukabera - UGANDA
MA candidate, Ed Diploma

The youngest member of the Ugandan Parliament, Annette Mukabera knows too well the barriers to political participation for women. “Politics is an expensive venture, and young women lack the necessary resources, qualifications, and motivation. When they join the political sphere, they are subjected to all forms of degrading behavior that discourages them to perform effectively.”

The Honorable Mukabera has distinguished herself in Parliament for her focus on HIV/AIDS. Personally, she is most proud of attaining an education despite poverty, political turmoil, and lack of community support.

Experiencing the difference education has brought to her life motivates her to encourage and create the conditions for other children, especially girls, to enter and stay in school.  Her project is to how to help women in leadership cope with the various problems that are a threat to women. In Uganda when the former Vice President announced that she had been battered by her husband and was breaking the silence, people then did realize that all women have similar problems, such as: domestic violence, poverty, high mortality rates disease, and so on. What I was thinking of is getting documentation of/on women and how they cope with these problems.
